Their tacos are literally amaxing! Their quesadillas are also fantastic! Definitely recommend this place. It may not be fancy, but their food is to die for. I am so excited everything we get to go there!

Best authentic Mexican in La Crosse. That's not saying much. Their burritos are decent, but they vary in size from tiny to acceptable. Price is ok.

Stopped in while visiting La Crosse. Walked in and was delighted to see you literally only had four options of main courses to choose from with about six different options of meat you could include in your dish. This may seem like a small detail but in a world filled with fifty different options at restaurants, my indecisive self rejoiced at the options. It also indicated to me that they were probably solid at what they offer. Started with three tacos, el pastor, pollo and chorizo. All the meats were delectably cooked and had tons of flavor. Loved it. My partner and I decided after eating our tacos we instantly needed more, not really because we were hungry but because we were not sure when we would be in town again. We split an el pastor torta and it was one of the best tortas I have ever had, and I love me some tortas. Cheese was kind of melty and creamy, avocado and tomatoes were fresh and the bread was perfectly toasty. Only wish I lived closer.

Excellent, added fresh jalapeño to the beef steak burrito. No bowl option tho, so I put aside my low carb habit.

Best Mexican food you will find around. Has a super simple menu and everything is great. Don't let the exterior fool you.

  • Robin W.

They have your basic Mexican food that's good stuff. I like the quesadillas the best. The staff is always nice and happy to see us. They have real soda with sugar that taste great.

Solid authentic mexican food. Not the best I've had, but pretty decent for the area. Good price, quick service. Empty on a Saturday night unfortunately... I hope this isn't always the case! The people of La Crosse are missing out if they haven't tried it out yet!

  • Paul L.

Not perfect, but darn good! I had the "street tacos" (I guess they call them "tacos" here), which were excellent and reasonable. I will be back again.

  • Rebecah M.

Disgusting. Everything was dry and lukewarm, nothing had any spices or flavor and the lettuce was old and musty. The cheese was just plain cheddar. The only good thing on it was avocados and I had to ask for them specially.

Ambiance: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Food: 2/5 Seriously, after seeing all the reviews, I figured, why not. I've been away from home for a week and haven't had mexican food in over 2. And i LOVE mexican food. When I first walked in, it all looked promising. Some Jarriots in the fridge, and some steak being grilled on the....um...well, grill. The friendly cashier and cook were both mexican, yay! how much more authenticity assurance did i need? Glancing at the menu, I was in the mood for chicken and al pastor. And looking back at the grill, i decided on some steak as well. Coming back to the dorms, I bit into what I was hoping to be great mexican food!!! ......only to be greeted with underseasoned, dry meat. The steak, especially, was too chewy to eat with the tacos. By the time i finished chewing the steak, everything else from the taco (tortilla, vegetables, etc) were already resting in my stomach.

You know this place. It's your favorite off-ramp taco truck. You know, the one you crave at 2 a.m. The one you wish you could take with you to all parts of the world, when you travel, when you move, when you change jobs? Now, instead of a truck, it's a store-front. WARNING - If you only know Midwestern Mexican food, you may not like this place. If you are looking for REAL Mexican food -- the little taco's with cilantro, lime and meat, this is YOUR place. You better go because if it closes down I hold each of you personally responsible, a girl can only eat so many tacos on her own!

  • Terry S.

This is amazing, authentic Mexican food. I grew up eating at a handful of taco/burrito shops in my south San Diego neighborhood. This place is JUST like those shops. Like Gary G. from Madison said, an extremely simple menu - a couple simple decisions and, voila, you're enjoying the best Mexican food! Burritos House is our "go-to" quick, easy, cheap restaurant for a great meal! We can't get enough!

  • Bart V.

If you want authentic taqueria Mexican, eat here! If you want dime-a-dozen Midwest "authentic" Mexican don't eat here. If you don't like the food, you don't really like Mexican. Go to taco johns.

Best Mexican food in La Crosse - hands down. This is real Mexican food. I should know - I'm a Mexican guy from Los Angeles. The menu is simple. Just pick your meat and your method of delivery (taco, burrito, quesadilla, or torta). They don't even have side dishes. This place rules.

This is an authentic taqueria, so if you are looking for americanized mexican, this is not it. I love this little place. It is very unassuming on the outside (as it should be), Finally, I decided to stop one day for lunch. It was love at first bite. Like the other reviewers mentioned they only serve tacos, burrios, tortas (sandwiches), and quesadillas. Meat, cilantro, onion, corn tortilla - the way it should be. I love the vegetarian and shredded pork tacos. The husband loves the chicken burritos. The salsa verde is very fresh, love it. And they serve the old fashion coke/pepsi in the glass bottle as well as different mexican sodas - try the grapefruit one. Please people, I want you to eat here, so I can eat here for years to come. Thanks - I am paying it forward.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
